What is speech therapy at home?
Our speech-language pathologists help patients recover speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing skills at home after a stroke, surgery or illness.
Who may qualify for home health care?
Home health eligibility depends on a clinical assessment, the ordered services, and your insurance benefit. Under Original Medicare, you generally must be under the care of a physician or other allowed practitioner, have a qualifying need for intermittent skilled nursing, physical therapy, or speech-language pathology, and meet the homebound requirement. Occupational therapy may continue coverage after eligibility has been established through a qualifying service. Your practitioner must establish and periodically review the plan of care, and required face-to-face documentation must support the referral.
Homebound does not mean that you can never leave your house. It generally means that leaving normally requires considerable effort or assistance because of your condition. Certain short or infrequent absences, including medical appointments, may still be compatible with eligibility. Diagnosis alone does not establish coverage. Skilled care may be appropriate to maintain function or prevent deterioration, not only when improvement is expected, if all requirements are met. Medical social services and aide visits are covered only within an eligible home health plan, not as standalone household assistance.
What to expect when care begins
Start by sharing the reason for the referral and asking whether your address and requested service can be accommodated. With your permission, the care coordinator can explain which records and orders are needed from your healthcare team. Bring hospital discharge instructions, current medication information, relevant equipment orders, insurance details, and the names of clinicians involved in your care. Do not send sensitive medical records through an ordinary website message; ask for an appropriate secure way to share them.
During the assessment, your clinician will discuss symptoms, daily routines, home conditions, and the goals that matter most to you. Together, you can identify realistic priorities and a schedule based on the authorized plan rather than a fixed package of visits. Timing depends on clinical needs, complete orders, coverage, and staff availability. Ask how to reach the team between visits and what to do if a visit needs to be rescheduled. A scheduled home health visit is not a substitute for emergency care.
Coverage, costs, and questions to ask
Allegiant HomeCare is a Medicare-certified home health agency. We accept Medicare and private pay. Original Medicare generally has no patient charge for covered home health services when all benefit requirements are met. Durable medical equipment may have separate cost sharing. Coverage is not guaranteed by a service name or a referral alone. Ask the coordinator to explain the applicable benefit, any expected personal costs, private-pay rates, and any notice you may receive before noncovered services begin.
Home health typically involves intermittent visits, not round-the-clock bedside staffing. It does not cover meals, general housekeeping, or personal care alone when no qualifying skilled need exists. If you need ongoing supervision or help outside scheduled visits, discuss additional family, community, or private-care arrangements. It is reasonable to ask who will visit, what each professional will do, how goals will be reviewed, and how your primary clinician will receive updates. Clear expectations help families plan safely and avoid surprises.
Support for families across North Texas
Allegiant HomeCare Inc. is based at 1201 W 15th St, Suite 310, Plano, TX 75075. Families in Plano, Richardson, Allen, McKinney, Frisco, Garland, Dallas, and Carrollton can request information about home health services and confirm current availability for their location. A family member, physician office, or hospital discharge team may start the conversation. Patient consent and clinical requirements still apply, and a request does not automatically establish an admission or authorize a treatment.
You deserve explanations that are understandable, respectful, and specific to your circumstances. Ask for language assistance, accessible written instructions, or caregiver participation when helpful. Before services end, discuss remaining needs, follow-up appointments, and the transition to outpatient or community support when appropriate. The information on this page is general education, not a diagnosis or individualized medical advice. Your healthcare professional should guide treatment decisions. For severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, stroke symptoms, uncontrolled bleeding, or another medical emergency, call 911 rather than waiting for a home visit.
