Answers for families choosing home health care

If you don't see your question here, please call us — we're happy to help.

What is home health care?

Home health care is licensed clinical care — skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and medical social work — delivered in a patient's home under a physician's plan of care.

Who qualifies for home health services?

Adults who are under physician care, need intermittent skilled care, and are considered homebound typically qualify. We help confirm eligibility during a free assessment.

Does Medicare cover home health care?

Yes. When Medicare's home health criteria are met, most services are covered at 100% with no copay through the home health benefit.

How quickly can services begin?

In most cases we can complete an assessment within 24–48 hours and begin care immediately after.

How do I get a home health referral?

Your physician, hospital discharge planner, or case manager can send us a referral. You can also call us directly and we'll coordinate the physician order.

What areas does Allegiant serve?

Plano, Richardson, Allen, McKinney, Frisco, Garland, Dallas, Carrollton, and surrounding North Texas communities.

Is home health care the same as hospice?

No. Home health is recovery- and improvement-focused care. Hospice is comfort-focused end-of-life care. We help families understand the difference and choose what's right.

Will my loved one see the same nurse each visit?

Whenever possible, yes. Continuity of care is important to us — you'll have a consistent primary care team.

How long can someone receive home health care?

Care continues as long as the patient meets medical necessity criteria and the physician orders it — from a few weeks to many months for chronic conditions.

What if we need help at night or on weekends?

Our clinical team is on-call 24/7. You'll always be able to reach a live nurse for urgent questions.

Are Allegiant clinicians licensed and background checked?

Yes. 100% of our clinicians are licensed, credentialed, background-checked, and continuously trained.

How is home health different from personal care or a caregiver?

Home health is medical care delivered by licensed clinicians under a physician's orders. Personal care is non-medical help with daily tasks. Some patients need both, and we can help coordinate.

Can therapy really be done at home?

Absolutely. Home is often the best therapy setting because it targets exactly the environment the patient must navigate — their own stairs, bathroom, kitchen, and yard.

What payment options do you accept?

We accept Medicare and private pay. Medicare coverage depends on eligibility and the ordered care plan. Contact us to discuss costs before services begin.

How do families stay involved?

Communication is central. Family caregivers are included in the plan of care, receive proactive updates, and can reach the care team directly.
